TREATMENT STAGES
Orofacial myofunctional therapy
Orofacial myofunctional therapy helps patients, whether children, adolescents, or adults, develop balanced functions that are essential for good health and undisturbed sleep. In children and adolescents, it promotes harmonious growth of the face and jaws.
Orofacial myofunctional therapy focuses on natural functions such as breathing, swallowing, and chewing, which play a key role in dentofacial development.
Learning to breathe through the nose, position the tongue correctly, and chew effectively promotes optimal muscular balance and guides tooth alignment.
This approach also helps correct certain habits that can disrupt growth, such as prolonged thumb-sucking or improper lip movements. By gently and gradually retraining these functions, we help improve comfort, the stability of orthodontic treatments, and the overall well-being of patients of all ages.
Sometimes an orthopedic/interceptive phase (before all permanent teeth have erupted)
The purpose of these appliances is to identify and correct problems before they become too complex and difficult to manage.
There are two categories: fixed appliances, such as the quad helix (frog), and removable appliances, such as functional trainers or growth activators.
The duration of use varies depending on the type of appliance, generally ranging from 6 months to one year and a half. They help move certain teeth, influence jaw growth, and correct certain functions, such as mouth breathing or persistent infantile swallowing.
Orthodontic Phase
We use state-of-the-art brackets (more commonly known as “braces”), designed to ensure effective orthodontic treatment while providing greater comfort and optimal protection for the teeth and surrounding tissues.
There are two main types of brackets :
- Metal brackets
They are suitable for all types of orthodontic corrections and are often preferred for their durability and performance. Although they are less aesthetically discreet, they remain a common choice, particularly among patients seeking a reliable, cost-effective solution.
- Ceramic Brackets
Ceramic brackets, on the other hand, stand out for their aesthetic appeal. They are made of a translucent white material that blends harmoniously with the natural color of the teeth. These brackets are often chosen by adults or teenagers who want a more discreet treatment.
Retention (Stabilizing Results)
Retention is an essential step for maintaining the results achieved after orthodontic treatment. It stabilizes the teeth in their new position, preventing them from shifting back to their original positions.
The duration varies depending on the case, but it is often necessary for several years to ensure the stability of the corrections. Social Security covers two years of retention. This phase also takes into account the development of wisdom teeth.
Our practice manages this phase using a custom-made retainer (fabricated based on impressions sent to the dental technician, whose primary purpose is to maintain the interlocking of the teeth in addition to proper intra-arch alignment) combined with a wire bonded behind the lower incisors.
Clear Aligners
Treatment with clear aligners is an invisible, innovative, and digital technique that can be used in adults as well as adolescents.
It involves a series of custom-made, completely clear, and removable aligners. The aligners apply varying amounts of pressure to one or more teeth to move and reposition them, achieving perfect alignment and harmonious dental balance.
The aligners are worn 22 hours a day. Each aligner is worn for 1 to 2 weeks. Follow-up with Dental Monitoring is routine.
